Manual Lymphatic Drainage – What They Don’t Teach You In Massage School

$97 AUD

Do you truly understand the journey of lymphatic fluid through the body?
How do medications influence this process? And what happens when you move fluid in clients with cardiac conditions like atrial fibrillation or hypertension?

These considerations are often overlooked. While many therapists receive basic training in manual lymphatic drainage (MLD), few are taught how fluid movement can affect the body’s complex systems.

This short course bridges that gap. It delivers essential knowledge not typically covered in massage school or weekend workshops—so you can better understand the risks, benefits, and clinical decision-making required to treat safely.

⚠️ Please note: This course is educational only and does not provide a qualification in MLD or Decongestive Lymphatic Therapy (DLT). If you work with clients requiring MLD for medical conditions—such as lymphoedema, lipoedema, post-surgical oedema, or chronic illness—you really should consider upskilling with accredited training.

Learning outcomes:

Upon completion of this mini course, participants will be able to:

  • Assess the health history of an elderly patient and determine MLD treatment appropriateness
  • Recognise the importance of risk assessment and the principle of 'First Do No Harm'
  • Explain the development, structure, and primary functions of the lymphatic system
  • Identify and differentiate between various types and causes of oedema
  • Discuss the safe application of MLD during pregnancy and related precautions
  • Understand blood pressure and cardiovascular considerations in MLD application
  • Conduct comprehensive health histories and assessments relevant to MLD
  • Apply foundational MLD principles including lymphotomes, watersheds, and treatment preparation
  • Recognise and adapt to MLD indications, contraindications, and client-specific needs
  • Modify MLD treatments to suit palliative, paediatric, post-surgical, and diverse client needs
  • Perform MLD sequences with correct technique, breathing, and clearance protocols
  • Review core concepts, consolidate learning, and access additional resources
  • Access and interpret resources to guide safe and evidence-informed MLD practice
