Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)  is an advanced therapy that encourages the natural process of the lymphatic vessels to eliminate waste products and to boost your body’s defenses.

How does MLD work?

MLD stimulates the lymphatic system to absorb and transport lymph more effectively which improves tissue health. It also assists with detoxification and stimulates the immune system and parasympathetic nervous system (relaxation response). Dr Vodder says.. “to put the effect of MLD in a nutshell, it causes body fluids to flow, removes waste products from connective tissue, rectifies metabolic dysfunction in the interstitium, supports the immune system, balances the nervous system and relieves congestion.”

Compression Garment Fitting

My specialty is the Management of Lymphoedema and Lipoedema and I am trained in the fitting of garments. I maintain my registration and keep up to date with the latest trends and research by attending regular training with the different suppliers. Your doctor may advise you that you need to “wear” a garment, for any number of conditions (see the list below). You may have heard this referred to as a “compression stocking” for your leg/s or a “compression sleeve” for your arm/s but as you will see from the list below, garments can be made for every part of your body. Some can be bought “ready to wear” but some need to be custom made.

Lymphoedema Management

Lymphoedema is the abnormal accumulation of protein-rich fluid accompanied by low level chronic inflammation and reactive fibrosis. Decongestive lymphatic therapy is the gold standard treatment and includes compression therapy (bandaging and/or garments), manual lymphatic drainage, skin care, exercise and modification of activities of daily living including education and adjuvant therapy.

Lipoedema Management

Lipoedema is a chronic disorder of adipose tissue mainly affecting the legs, but not the feet, occurring almost exclusively in women. It is often misdiagnosed for obesity and has no known cause. Treatment is similar to lymphoedema utilising decongestive lymphatic therapy. This includes compression therapy (bandaging and/or garments), manual lymphatic drainage, skin care, exercise and modification of activities of daily living including education and adjuvant therapy.

Oncology Massage

Oncology Massage is a very light and relaxing massage specifically tailored for people with cancer, those feeling frail or with compromised health. I incorporate decongestive lymphatic therapy into the treatment. This includes compression therapy (bandaging and/or garments), manual lymphatic drainage, skin care, exercise and modification of activities of daily living including education and adjuvant therapy.
